Life Legacy
Funeral services for Mrs. Johnnie Souter McMahen, age 82, will be held at 10:00 am, Wednesday, August 8, 2012, at Central Baptist Church, Springhill, LA, with Rev. Tim Everett officiating. Interment will follow in Springhill Cemetery under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home, Springhill.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, August 7, 2012 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm at the funeral home.
Mrs. McMahen was born on July 12, 1930 to Nesbit and Golda Souter in Macedonia, AR and passed away on Sunday, August 5, 2012 in Bossier City, LA. She was a longtime member of Central Baptist Church, a law clerk for Roy Fish and Charles McConnell for many years before becoming City Clerk of Springhill in July of 1974 where she retired from in 1992 after 18 years of service. She loved playing Bridge, bowling, dancing, and watching sports, most of all Auburn Football. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Mrs. McMahen is survived by her son, Dr. Wayne McMahen and wife Beverly of Springhill, LA; three grandchildren, Stuart McMahen of Springhill, Megan McMahen Colvin and husband, Matt of Charlottesville, VA, Marci McMahen of Chicago, IL; great-granddaughter, Landry Kate Colvin of Charlottesville, VA and step-mother, Edith Baker Souter of Springhill.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Dr. Royce L. "Doc" McMahen and son, Randy McMahen.
Pallbearers will be Dr. Greg Bryan, T.L. Ratcliff, Bob Colvin, Steve Long, Dr. Raymond Robertson, Mike Word, and Randy Hearnsberger. Honorary pallbearers will be Jim Lasiter, Ronnie Dees, Ray Huddleston, Reggie Barker, Donnie Mitchell, Dr. Neil Tubbs, Rick Kottenbrook, Don Kottenbrook, Randy Soileau, Steve Duggan, Mike Tompkins, Dr. David Tyler and Dr. Duane Griggs
The family wishes to extend a special thanks to Dr. Wayne Sessions, Dr. Gary Torrence, Dr. Michelle Pardue, Dr. Pat Deere, Tommie Ann Cassidy, N.P., nurses and Staff at Springhill Medical Center and Promise Hospital of Bossier for their wonderful compassionate care.
In lieu of flowers the family request that memorials be made to the Central Baptist Church Children's Ministry, 504 West Church Street, Springhill, LA 71075.
